The Value of Relationship & Teamwork

When you visit Asheville Dental Care, what you find is a group of dedicated professionals committed to providing you with exceptional dental care, and an enjoyable dental experience. What you may not realize, is that in addition to the numerous continuing education courses we take each year to improve our technical skills, it is also important for us to take a break now and then and invest in building our team and our relationships with one another.

This past week we took a day and did just that. We spent some time at the Nantahala Outdoor Center working with their professionals to improve our communication, teamwork, and customer service skills. This day long intensive included obstacle courses, problem solving work, and programs designed to challenge our skills and our minds. Our NOC leader, pushed us to face some tough truths about ourselves, and how to work together to take our practice to another level. In all, we had an amazing day and came out with a renewed appreciation and dedication for what we do, our patients, and for one other.

It was an experience that will have a strong impact on our day-to-day care of you, our patients, and continuing our dedication to creating an even better experience at Asheville Dental Care.

Our Newest Training

In May 2011, Dr. Powell and the entire staff at Asheville Dental Care traveled to LasVegas to attend a 3 day training event called The Townie Dental Meeting. We feel we already offer the most current, modern, and up to date services and techniques available. That same technology is always being enhanced and improved. The only way for a practice to stay on the cutting edge is for the doctor and the entire staff to be educated together. During the 3 days we attended a total of 98 hours in some really great courses. Among some of the advanced courses were took were:

  • 3D Dentistry for the General Practice
  • Laser Periodontal Pocket Therapy
  • Single Tooth Implants
  • Cerec Updates
  • Laser Benefits
  • Placing Implants
  • Periodontal Microsurgery
  • Continuing to Care: Team Approach
  • Immediate Implant Treatment
  • Sleep Apnea and Snoring
  • Cerec Advanced and Beyond
  • Power of a Team

Needless to say, we are excited to be back and ready to serve you even better than before. We won’t stop here, we are already scheduled in June for a training session in Raleigh, and in Dallas in July. We are never satisfied with the ordinary, there is so much more to offer. Leave it to us to be the ones to provide! That’s what we’re here for.

Dental Mission to Honduras

Two months to get ready, supplies are packed and we ship out bright and early on Sunday. Please check our blog regularly for updates – we want to share this experience with you.

I need to begin this entry with a big thank you! My staff has been amazing, ordering, organizing and giving their time to help me get prepared to head to Honduras. Another big thank you goes out to Debbie Kasey and Patterson Dental. Debbie has truly been a driving force. She has worked to find donated supplies, worked with Patterson to donate supplies, and just put so much time and effort into getting us what we need to make this trip successful.

This trip has made me realize how much I take so much for granted. I’ve never stopped and thought just how much has to go into getting ready for a trip like this. We are going to a country, where they literally have almost nothing in the way of supplies and equipment we need to provide good care. So, we have to take it all with us. Portable chairs, lights, instruments, and right down to the tiny details like floss and tooth paste. We have searched our supplies as well and donated everything we can. I feel great about everything we are taking with us, and providing the care the people of Honduras deserve.

Each member of the Rotary Bridgade (that is what they are calling us) is taking an extra 50 pound bag to carry on the plane. As the arilines charge and put limits on extra baggage now, even the cost just to arrive in Honduras creates extra challenges.

We arrive on Monday and will spend the day getting organized and setting up our clinics. Tuesday we get started. Half of our team will be working in Copan, while the other half heads off to the mountains. To remote parts of Honduras ,to provide dental and medical care to patients who most likely have never received either.

It promises to be an adventure and very worthwhile trip. I look forward to sharing it with you via our blog. And please, as you visit our office mention to my staff how terrific they are. There is no way I could go on this trip, no way I could provide care for the people of Honduras, without their help in getting me ready and their support in taking care of you – our patients, while I am gone!

Looking forward to sharing more soon!

Dr. Powell
